ABOUT THIS PROJECT: The overall mission is to provide a place for Slinger High School students and Slinger Area community members to share what they've researched regarding historical and cultural aspects of the Slinger area in a way that's accessible to the community. The site you are looking at is the racing category within the larger Slinger Area History/Culture Project website. The Slinger Area History/Culture Project is a direct result of a grant provided by the Wisconsin Teachers of Local Culture, which is funded by the National Endowment of the Arts and the State of Wisconsin. During the process of showcasing parts of the historical and cultural identity of the Slinger area, we hope students will not only learn more about the history and culture of the area, but gain important experience in collaboration, inquiry, observation, communication, documentation, writing, photography, art, and design that might help them in college, career, or as citizens. We are gradually adding stories and details to the racing history/culture aspect. Many Slinger students, in particular those students who are racers themselves, have contributed to this research. Special thanks to all who have contributed so far. Your work preserving Slinger Area culture and history is appreciated.
If you have a favorite racing story, want to talk about the impact of racing in the Slinger Area from a racer/racing crew/business/family/community member angle, send a story to: [email protected] The committee will peruse.
